Marta Mucznik
Policy Analyst
Marta Mucznik is a Policy Analyst in the European Politics and Institutions Programme.

She previously served as Advisor to the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the EU on Transatlantic Relations during the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU. In that capacity, she represented Portugal at the EU Council’s Working Party on Transatlantic Relations (COTRA) and advised Portuguese senior officials and diplomats in anticipation of EU official meetings.

Marta has extensive work experience in government relations and public diplomacy at the foreign policy and local levels. She has worked with a range of intergovernmental organizations, governments, think tanks and NGOs, including the American Jewish Committee, the EU Delegation to the United States, the UN Alliance of Civilizations, the Lisbon City Council, the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the European Commission, DG NEAR. She also served as a lecturer on the Middle East Peace Process at the Portuguese Institute for Political and Social Sciences.

Her expertise and experience include transatlantic relations, the Middle East, EU foreign and security policy, EU enlargement, populism and the far-right. She also gained local government experience advising elected officials on social inclusion, affordable housing, minority and social rights.

Marta is a research associate at the Portuguese Institute for International affairs, of Universidade NOVA (IPRI-NOVA) and a Member of the Advisory Council of the Plataforma para o Crescimento Sustentável. She is a regular columnist for the Portuguese online newspaper Observador where she writes on populism, identity politics and the rise of the far-right.
