Slovenia took over the EU Council Presidency in the midst of a crisis over the rule of law and the state of media freedom in the country. More than one year after the outbreak of the pandemic in Europe, the recovery continued to be the first priority. During its Presidency, Slovenia tried to move forward with the enlargement file. In these regards, Brdo hosted another edition of the EU-Western Balkans summit, and member states agreed on Croatia’s preparedness to join the Schengen area. The Conference on the Future of Europe, launched in May, was one of the milestones of the Slovenian Presidency.
Between July and December 2021, the EPC teamed up with the Centre for International Relations (CIR) of the University of Ljubljana and organized one public event on the Western Balkans.
