The coronavirus crisis is affecting economies, societies and people’s well-being across the globe. It risks deepening inequalities in Europe and beyond. At the same time, the climate and environmental crises continue to cast a shadow over Europe and the world. These are global challenges that can be addressed only by working together across borders and at the multilateral level, while upholding the SDGs.
Are the current measures, including the recovery efforts from the coronavirus crisis, adequate and could they help accelerate progress towards a more sustainable future in the EU and beyond? Our distinguished speakers, Her Majesty the Queen of the Belgians and an UN SDG Advocate, Jutta Urpilainen, European Commissioner for International Partnerships and Guillaume Lafortune, Director for the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, will reflect on how the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with its 17 SDGs, can serve as a guide for EU decision makers, policy-makers and the private sector with a view to creating prosperous, sustainable and resilient societies and economies.
