Terrorist attacks have serious consequences for the families of the victims who lose their lives, the survivors who are wounded and those who witness the attack. Their lives are impacted and changed forever.

While the victims of terrorist attacks and their families find themselves in the spotlight in the aftermath of an attack, little is known about what happens in the following weeks, months and years. Prompt, efficient assistance and support from public authorities along with support from frontline practitioners, including mental health practitioners and social workers is crucial to help rebuild lives. The work and support of national and European victim associations is also central in this process.

This Policy Dialogue will look at the rights of victims of terrorism and how governments can strengthen their national legislation, procedures and practices to better protect and support victims and their families, looking at best practice and key challenges remaining.
