A group of 21 Serbian students is running a 1,933 km ultra-marathon from Novi Sad to Brussels to deliver an important message to EU institution: Serbia is at a crossroads between democratic renewal and further authoritarian regression.
Their arrival at the European Parliament on 12 May comes after nearly six months of mass protests across Serbia, with over 350 rallies a week calling out corruption, media censorship, and electoral fraud. Recently after a 13-day marathon, 80 Serbian students arrived in Strasbourg with the same goal.
In partnership with the Belgrade-based Centre for Research, Transparency and Accountability (CRTA) and its Brussels-based office EUCRTA, this EPC event will provide an evidence-based analysis of the political developments unfolding in Serbia.
As public dissatisfaction toward the government reaches a tipping point, the stakes are high – not only for Serbia’s democracy but also for the EU’s enlargement strategy and the broader regional and geopolitical landscape.
Join us for a timely discussion on the future of Serbia and its path toward justice, accountability, and democratic renewal
Participation is open to EPC members, media, and EU officials
