In January 2025, Poland will assume the Presidency of the Council of the EU for the second time since the country joined the Union in 2004. This term will also mark the start of a new presidency trio that includes Denmark and Cyprus.
With Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, escalating tensions in the Middle East, rising economic insecurity, democratic challenges, and the recent re-election of Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, EUrope will navigate through difficult waters in the coming months and years. The Polish Council Presidency will play a crucial role in this respect. While security and defence will be central themes, other pivotal issues such as enlargement, financial stability, and European competitiveness will also shape the agenda.
In this in-person Breakfast Briefing, the Permanent Representative of Poland to the EU, Ambassador Agnieszka Bartol, will outline the priorities of the Polish Council Presidency. Following her presentation, she will take part in a question-and-answer session chaired by Janis A. Emmanouilidis, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Studies at the EPC.
Participation is open to EPC members only, the media, and EU officials
