Policy Dialogue
Reviewing the Gas Directive: opportunities and challenges

EVENT
Friday, 16 March 2018

In its response to diverse opinions about the applicability of the EU law on off-shore pipelines, the European Commission proposes to revise the Gas Directive in order to extend EU internal market rules to all import pipelines. The amendment is said to target the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, a project which is particularly contested as it contradicts key EU objectives of the Energy Union. This Policy Dialogue sought to better understand the background, rationale and content of the Commission’s proposal, the risks it aims to tackle and the potential impact on existing and future infrastructure. The Dialogue was organised by the European Policy Centre in cooperation with the Central Europe Energy Partners (CEEP).

Speakers included: Marco Giuli, Policy Analyst, European Policy Centre, Benedikt Klauser, Policy Officer, Directorate-General for Energy, European Commission, Frank Umbach, Research Director, European Centre for Energy and Resource Security, Dirk Buschle, Deputy Director, Energy Community Secretariat, Ieva Kuodé, Head of Development, Epso-g.
