The European Policy Centre is delighted to invite you to this hybrid Policy Dialogue organised with the support of Viatris. On 11 March, the European Commission presented the Critical Medicines Act, aiming to enhance the resilience and security of the European Union’s pharmaceutical supply chain.

This Policy Dialogue will take stock of the immediate reactions to the Critical Medicines Act contribute to shaping its early development. The event is built around the three Ps of the European Economic Security Strategy (Promote, Protect and Partner), coupled with a fourth one (Prepare). It will explore the prospects for building supply security by diversifying supply chains, expanding international trade cooperation and promote policies that enable diversified raw material and finished product sourcing.

Keynote speakers and panelists will explore approaches to maintain the benefits of interconnected global supply chains and ways of achieving economic security through fostering innovation, investment, and collaboration across borders. They will also examine a balance between continued international openness and improved prospects of the European industry. Further, the discussion will address the nature of procurement and pricing mechanisms, regulatory and investment barriers as well as workforce shortages, and environmental regulations.
