Managing & shaping the EU-UK relationship What role for the European Parliament?

Add to calendar:

Wednesday, 21 April 2021
 17:00 - 18:00
By invitation only

Bernd Lange
Member of the European Parliament; Chair, Committee on International Trade

Jannike Wachowiak
Policy Analyst, European Policy Centre

The EU-UK deal has only been applied provisionally pending full ratification on the EU side. In March, the European Parliament postponed its decision to ratify the deal in response to the UK’s decision to unilaterally extend the grace periods for Irish Sea border checks. Given the rocky start to the relationship and the launch of legal action against the UK, this briefing will discuss the European Parliament’s position on ratifying the TCA in its plenary session starting on April 26, as well as parliamentarians’ involvement in implementing the deal and shaping the broader relationship.

Bernd Lange MEP, Chair of the Committee on International Trade and Member of the UK Coordination Group, will shed light on these and other questions in conversation with Jannike Wachowiak, EPC Policy Analyst.
