Bosnians are going to the polls on 4 October to elect the three members of the presidency, the members of the state, entity and cantonal parliaments, and the president of the Republika Srpska.
These will be the first general elections after the introduction of new election technologies expected to enhance electoral integrity and reduce fraud. Over the past years, the country’s political climate has been marked by institutional paralysis and political frictions. Despite the optimism injected by the candidate status and the green light to start accession talks in 2024, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU path remains stalled due to the institutional paralysis and domestic political disagreements over the implementation of the required reforms. Bosnia remains the only Balkan country that has not yet received Growth Plan funds.
This event, part of the Election Monitor, will assess the outcome of the elections, the possible scenarios for government formation and its implications for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU path.
