The practical functioning of the asylum and migration system and responses to evolving geopolitical and economic challenges, including emergency situations at the EU’s external borders, will continue to dominate the EU political agenda and debate. This, combined with the salience of migration politics, calls for critical reflection on current and future policymaking dynamics and the role of research in them.
How can evidence feed policymaking when political pressures and institutional priorities shrink space and time for external input? Can and should EU migration policy move beyond a predominantly crisis-driven agenda, and where is there scope for greater long-term thinking? Should researchers think and operate differently in this new context?
This hybrid Policy Dialogue will bring together academic and institutional perspectives to reflect on challenges and opportunities ahead.
Participation is open to EPC members, the Studio Europa Maastricht network, the media and EU officials only.
