Dementia is a leading cause of disability and dependency, affecting around 10 million people in Europe. Its incidence is set to increase, becoming one of the most important challenges in our society. As such, dementia is also having an increasing impact on people with a migrant heritage in Europe.

Yet, people with dementia with a migration background are potentially more exposed to difficulties in accessing appropriate and timely care. A lack of culturally appropriate services or stigma are but a few elements hindering access. In a Europe that is growing ever more diverse, how can we ensure that health and care policies are inclusive and accessible to all?

At this event, speakers will address current knowledge gaps around access to care for people from a migration background in Europe. They will also discuss best practices in promoting culturally sensitive and inclusive health and care services, as supported over the past 10 years by the European Foundations’ Initiative on Dementia.
