EVENT
The European Policy Centre (EPC) is pleased to invite you to a high-level, in-person Policy Dialogue taking place on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, from 10:30 to 12:00, on the occasion of Wales’ National Day, focusing on the role of public policy in safeguarding the well-being of future generations.
Marking more than a decade since the adoption of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act, the event will reflect on the Welsh experience as one of the most advanced and operationalised models of intergenerational policymaking in Europe. At a time when intergenerational fairness is rising on the European policy agenda, the Welsh case offers concrete lessons on how long-term thinking can be embedded in governance frameworks and translated into practice.
The event will open with a keynote speech by Derek Walker, Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, who will share insights from Wales’ decade-long experience in implementing the Act.
The keynote will be followed by a fireside chat with Elizabeth Kuiper, Associate Director and Head of the EPC’s Health and Societal Resilience Programme, Philippe Lamberts, Special Adviser to the European Commission President, and other speakers to be confirmed, exploring how the Welsh model can inform European, national and local approaches to intergenerational fairness.
The discussion will conclude with a Q&A session.
Participation is open to EPC members, media, and EU officials.
