Corina Stratulat joined the EPC in 2009 as a Policy Analyst and works in the European Politics and Institutions Programme, contributing in particular to the work of the EU Politics and Governance Forum and the Balkans Forum. Part of her EPC activity has involved researching and writing about the EU’s institutional developments, especially about issues related to the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty. She has analysed and spoken for the EPC on various aspects linked to the EU’s enlargement policy towards the Western Balkans.

Corina holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Integrated Social Sciences from Jacobs University (Bremen, Germany), a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Contemporary European Studies from Cambridge University (Cambridge, UK) and a Doctorate (PhD) in Political and Social Sciences from European University Institute (Florence, Italy). Her main research interests include comparative Central and East European politics, parties and party systems, elections, democracy, EU institutions, integration and enlargement.

Corina Stratulat contributed to the Balkans in Europe Policy Advisory Group (BiEPAG) study, “The crisis of Democracy in the Western Balkans. An anatomy of stabilitocracy and the limits of EU democracy promotion”. The new BiEPAG policy study has shown that the state of democracy and freedom has been backsliding or stagnating in the countries of the Western Balkans over the past decade.

Corina Stratulat spoke in a public conference on “Enlargement in crisis: who is still up for the tango” organised by Europuls in the European Parliament, alongside ambassadors from some of the aspirant countries for EU membership and representatives from the EP and the Commission. She provided an assessment of the enlargement process and discussed the possibility of improving the EU’s enlargement policy.
