Dr. Marie De Somer is a Senior Policy Analyst and Head of the EPC’s Migration and Diversity Programme.

Marie’s research interests relate to European migration policies and law, including asylum, labour migration and family reunification; as well as related questions on human rights, citizenship and the free movement of persons. Prior to joining the EPC, Marie worked as a researcher at the KU Leuven Institute for Human Rights and as a Marie Curie Fellow at Maastricht University. She also gained experience working at the Justice and Home Affairs Section of CEPS and at the European Commission’s DG Migration and Home Affairs.

Marie holds a PhD from Maastricht University, an MSc in European Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science and master degrees from the KU Leuven (in Contemporary European History and in European Politics and Policies).

Marie is also an Affiliated Senior Researcher at the KU Leuven Law Faculty and regularly lectures on European migration law in Leuven and at Maastricht University.
