Towards new methods of governance in European crisis and disaster management? - Workshop

24 January 2012

EU governance, which aims to achieve long-term convergence of member state policies through joint goals and guidelines (as opposed to binding legislative measures), has previously been applied to EU policy areas such as employment, social protection and environment. However, debate continues on the extent to which this form of governance has led to increased efficiency, national convergence and higher levels of commitment. This workshop discussed the pros and cons of this form of governance and debated the possibilities of extending it to new policy areas linked to European crisis and disaster management.
