Adapting to climate change: what role for the EU?

Extreme weather events and environmental disasters are having an increasing impact on European citizens. Whether or not they are the result of man-made climate change, Europe can and should prepare itself for these, says Annika Ahtonen in this Policy Brief. While most early action and adaptation measures will need to take place at national level, the EU could play a key role in supporting and coordinating Member-State activity. However, only time will tell whether the EU will be given a meaningful role in the adaptation efforts in Europe.
