European day of Philanthropy - ‘Boost Philanthropy in Europe’

On 12 May, Herman Van Rompuy, President Emeritus of the European Council and President of the EPC provided the closing speech at the first European day of Philanthropy ‘Boost Philanthropy in Europe’ that took place in Brussels. The day highlighted the complementary role of philanthropy to public action and showed that philanthropy works in Europe. The conference was opened by Her Majesty the Queen of the Belgians, and welcomed an array of distinguished speakers.

Does the EU encourage private sector investment?

Fabian Zuleeg spoke at an event in Malta organised by The Employers' Group of the EESC on how efficient The European Federation for Services to Individuals (EFSI) in mobilising private investment. The event was held to reflect on the EU's initiatives to mobilise private investment including the extension in time and financial capacity of the European Fund for Strategic Investment which is a priority file during the Maltese Presidency.

Emmanouilidis spoke last week at the New Pact for Europe launch event organised by EGMONT – Royal Institute for International Relations – hosted to present its contribution to the project New Pact for Europe. This project gathers several think tanks among 10 EU countries to discuss European Union’s future and current challenges.

Weber project - workshops

Corina Stratulat led a series of workshops in the context of the Weber project. She spoke in Mavrovo, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia on 8 and 9 May, and then in Pristina, Kosovo on 10 May.
