The Services Package – Is the EU on the right track?1 March 2017
The Policy Dialogue looked at the proposals launched by the European Commission on 10 January 2017 to ease the administrative formalities required to provide cross-border services, and to assess national rules on professional services more efficiently. The package builds on the Services Directive adopted in 2006, which has not had the transformative impact that many had hoped for. A panel of speakers debated the pros and cons of the package, and the event was chaired by Malcolm Harbour, Senior Adviser on the Single Market to the EPC.
Speakers included: Robert Strauss, Head of Unit for Service Policy and Consumers at DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, European Commission, Ben Butters, Policy Director at Eurochambres, the European Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Thiebaut Weber, Confederal Secretary at the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), Arnold Pindar, President of ANEC, the European Consumer Voice in Standardisation
