On 23 July, in cooperation with the Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey (DEIK), the European Policy Centre held a Sixty Minute Policy Briefing, with Ibrahim Kalın, Presidential Spokesman and chief adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. With Turkey increasingly pursuing an ambitious pro-active and assertive foreign policy, which mixes both soft and hard power tools, Professor Kalin elaborated on a number of Turkey’s currently foreign policy priorities. This included Turkey’s policy and objectives in Libya and in the Eastern Mediterranean. He also spoke about Turkey’s important but increasingly difficult relationship with the EU, how the EU needs to be an honest broker when it comes to the Eastern Mediterranean and the need to find ways to rebuild trust between the two parties.
